Comments

This surah was revealed in Mecca when people were in the process of accepting Islam. When the Quraish of Mecca became aware of this change they were much frustrated and somehow they wanted to stop this movement. Therefore they thought to make some kind of offers to the Prophet like : Offering so much of wealth to him so that he could become the richest man of Mecca. Another offer was of a woman of his liking with a condition, he should stop rejecting their Gods but worshipping them for one year and in return they will also worship Allah in next year.

Then, this surah was revealed, in which Allah has commanded the Prophet to convey to the disbelievers that for them their religion and for the believers their own. The believers worship only Allah and it was communicated to the disbelievers that if they do not want to worship Allah then it is upto them. For believers it was said that it is a must for them to worship Allah Only and must be careful not to worship those who are worshipped by the disbelievers.

The prophet Mohammad (saws) had a great importance of this surah and at most of the occassions he was reciting this surah in first rakat and surat Ikhlas in second rakat of sunnat salat of Fajr and Maghrib.

The Prophet (saws) has also guided the followers to recite this surah before going to bed in the night.
