42. Repent to seek forgiveness from Allah

Surah No. 4, An Nisa, Ayat No. 17 &18

إِنَّمَا التَّوْبَةُ عَلَى اللّهِ لِلَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ السُّوَءَ بِجَهَالَةٍ ثُمَّ يَتُوبُونَ مِن قَرِيبٍ

o فَأُوْلَـئِكَ يَتُوبُ اللّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَكَانَ اللّهُ عَلِيماً حَكِيماً

وَلَيْسَتِ التَّوْبَةُ لِلَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ السَّيِّئَاتِ حَتَّى إِذَا حَضَرَ أَحَدَهُمُ الْمَوْتُ قَالَ إِنِّي

o تُبْتُ الآنَ وَلاَ الَّذِينَ يَمُوتُونَ وَهُمْ كُفَّارٌ أُوْلَـئِكَ أَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا

Translation :

Allah accepts only the repentance of those who do evil in ignorance and foolishness and repent soon afterwards; it is they whom Allah will forgive and Allah is Ever All¬Knower, All¬Wise.

And it is not a true repentance of those who continue to do evil deeds until death faces one of them and he says: "Now I repent;" And repentance of those is also not accepted who die as disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful torment.

Surah No. 20, Ta Ha, Ayat No. 82

o وَإِنِّي لَغَفَّارٌ لِّمَن تَابَ وَآمَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا ثُمَّ اهْتَدَى

Translation :

And in fact, I am indeed forgiving to him who repents, believes, and does righteous good deeds, and then remains constant in doing them. (Till his death)

Surah No. 66, Al Tahreem, Ayat No. 8

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا تُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ تَوْبَةً نَّصُوحًاعَسَى رَبُّكُمْ أَن يُكَفِّرَ عَنكُمْ

سَيِّئَاتِكُمْ وَيُدْخِلَكُمْ جَنَّاتٍتَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ يَوْمَ لَا يُخْزِي اللَّهُ النَّبِيَّوَالَّذِينَ

آمَنُوا مَعَهُ نُورُهُمْ يَسْعَى بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْوَبِأَيْمَانِهِمْ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا أَتْمِمْ لَنَا نُورَنَا

o وَاغْفِرْ لَنَاإِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Translation :

O you who believe! Turn to Allah with sincere repentance! It may be that your Lord will remove your sins from you, and admit you into Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), and that Day Allah will not disgrace the Prophet (Mohammad, saws) and those who believe with him. Their Light will run forward before them and (with their Records — Books of deeds) in their right hands. They will say: "Our Lord! Keep perfect our Light for us and grant us forgiveness.In fact, You are Able to do all things ."

Surah 40 Al Momin / Ghafir , Ayt No. 7

اَلَّذِيۡنَ يَحۡمِلُوۡنَ الۡعَرۡشَ وَمَنۡ حَوۡلَه يُسَبِّحُوۡنَ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّهِمۡ وَيُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ بِه وَيَسۡتَغۡفِرُوۡنَ لِلَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا‌ رَبَّنَا وَسِعۡتَ كُلَّ شَىۡءٍ رَّحۡمَةً وَّعِلۡمًا فَاغۡفِرۡ لِلَّذِيۡنَ تَابُوۡا وَاتَّبَعُوۡا سَبِيۡلَكَ وَقِهِمۡ عَذَابَ الۡجَحِيۡمِ

Translation :

Those (angels) who bear the Throne (Of Allah), and those who are round about it, sing the praises of their Lord, believe in Him and ask forgiveness for those believers : also say Our Lord! You have encompassed all things in mercy and knowledge, therefore forgive those who repent and follow Your path ; and preserve them from the Penalty of the Blazing Fire!
